Hey, I'm Rory, a queer trans artist focusing on photography as a medium to tell stories of authenticity and empathy. My journey in photography has been turbulent, with difficulties honing in on what my passion really is. However, as I near graduation, I have found my passion in working with other queer, like minded individuals to tell the world what being truly yourself really means. Breaking out of norms and the slow shuffle of mainstream society to become a vibrant and individually important person is something that the world is begging for, and a lot of queer people are delivering. I have begun my practice as a participatory photographer to facilitate a space that the queer people around me can safely and proudly present themselves as authentically as they are in that moment. The photos you see here are one example of this, where I have photographed Rowan (they/them), my non-binary friend. By having a long conversation pre-photoshoot, we could determine a significant location and atmosphere for them and then I asked for a few paragraphs to go alongside them to allow them control over the narrative.
