Maya Evans

My name is Maya Evans and I'm a third-year student studying Illustration at Falmouth University. My practice mostly involves authorial work, which can be seen in my book covers and my work on the horror book ‘The Book of Degewárlaghøndeno’, which was a collaborative project with writers Kieran Blake and Conrad Gardner that was published in early 2022. I enjoy using oil paints but my preferred visual language is lino printing as I enjoy the challenge of balancing the tones of a composition, and how the physicality of the process gives every composition a very personal feel. I am particularly drawn to darker themes in literature, specifically horror books, but I also have a very strong passion for literature that explores the mistreatment of women throughout history. I enjoy giving classic books a revamp to draw a new audience, as well as the freedom and freshness of an original story.
