Ellie Hickman

Ellie Hickman is a 21-year-old photographer from the West Midlands, who has recently finished her studies in BA Photography. Her work is inspired by current world issues, specifically those which affect women. In her most recent submission named ‘Phoenix’, Hickman conveys the growing problem involving violence against women as she photographs survivors of sexual harassment and assault. The work aims to educate, as well as spread awareness of the crisis and aid the healing of the survivors photographed. The project is mainly portraits, with some accompanying images of the person’s body. Each survivor has written a story of their experience with sexual violence and how it has affected them, which is portrayed alongside the images of them. Ellie Hickman hopes that from viewing the work, spectators will be positively impacted and become more aware of the current concerns that women face because of their gender.
