The way we see things is distorted by what we know and have accepted as objective truth. Objects don’t have meaning by themselves, they are given meaning by our human interpretation of them: it has long been accepted that our understanding of ‘things’ is shaped by the language we have to describe and label them. When we look at a ‘thing’, we categorize it within our knowledge of the world to classify what that thing is and what it is used for in words. The limitations of our lexicon, therefore, can limit our experience of ‘seeing’ them.
