Girl, Woman, Other - Penguin Student Design Award
This is a cover design for the book 'Girl, Woman, Other' by Bernadine Evaristo which was submitted to the Penguin Student Design Awards. The novel chronicles the stories of twelve different black women living in the UK and though fictional, is based on very real and similar experiences that many black women face every day.
I wanted to do the writing justice by using crochet as a metaphor for the interwoven yet passionate and brilliantly unique stories within the book.

A Dictionary for a Re-Imagined Planet
Animism is a widely held belief by many native communities around the world. In the West, we have forgotten the value and importance of the world around us, reducing the trees, rivers and oceans to objects for our own consumption.
In our dictionaries, we refer to forests as a noun, whereas in many Native American languages for example, forests are a verb. Whilst this might not initially make sense to us, classifying nature in this way gives it a life force and being.
'A Dictionary for a Re-Imagined Planet' attempts to re-imagine our definitions of nature in the native way, encouraging us to approach the world through a different lens and to have empathy for those that share our planet.

Kahvie - The Future of Flavour
'The Future of Flavour' Brief was set by Pearlfisher in order to consider how new sustainable foods could be promoted to an audience. 'Kahvie', a play on the Finnish word for coffee; 'Kahvia', is a grab-and-go style coffee drink with a twist, it is made from lab-grown coffee (with cells taken from coffee leaves). The tone of voice aims to be friendly and accessible to cut through any scientific jargon and to offer a kinder alternative to your daily brew.
