MA Illustration: Authorial Practice

Back in early March, 200 of us gathered for our annual illustration forum with little understanding of what the summer had in store for all of us. The months since have presented many challenges, but one of the things we’ve always celebrated on the MA is the role of constraints, sought and unsought, in fostering creativity. Be careful what you ask for.

As they’ve found their feet in a new realm of online gatherings and digital submissions we’ve been incredibly impressed by what the class of 2020 has come up with. We’ve watched their well laid plans shift fluidly to meet these new circumstances, each student working out what’s still possible, and discovering new possibilities only now configuring. The work presented here at their graduating MA Showcase offers a brilliant reminder of how the creative spirit mutates and adapts to meet any new circumstance, never taking no for an answer.
